Shiatsu

Fridays 10am - 1pm

Shiatsu is a form of traditional Japanese bodywork (based on principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine). It uses thumb, finger and palm pressure as well as stretches, rotations and other massage techniques to stimulate pressure points on the body. Shiatsu creates deep relaxation of the body and mind. Shiatsu is very dynamic and can be energising or calming, depending on your needs. Shiatsu can help with tension, mood, sleep, stress and energy levels, taking physical, mental and emotional aspects of the individual in to account. To me, the beauty of shiatsu is that it can give you greater awareness and understanding of your body through assisted relaxation or from pressure being applied to certain areas. I think that a good understanding of our body and appropriate responsiveness to it can help to improve and maintain wellbeing. In my view, shiatsu is one of the effective ways to do this.

I have been practising shiatsu extensively throughout my training and part-time since my qualification, for 5 years. I have treated clients who have a broad range of issues such as depression, cancer, blood disorders, epilepsy, fibromyalgia, neuropathy, health anxiety, brain injury, scoliosis, IBS, menstrual problems, menopausal symptoms, as well as sleep disorders. I have also treated a number of clients in my previous work as a support worker with vulnerable adults, some of whom had learning disabilities, physical disabilities or brain injury (affecting balance and memory).

Shiatsu is an extremely adaptable practice that can be tailored to any individual's needs, whether they include physical disability, injury, pain or chronic fatigue problems etc. Shiatsu is traditionally done on a futon on the floor with the client fully clothed. However, please notify me of any personal requirements in advance as it can also be carried out in a chair or wheelchair if necessary.

The first treatment will include taking a case history, and each treatment will be tailored to your needs, focusing on your comfort and relaxation.

Please contact reception to book an appointment

I am registered with the Shiatsu Society and fully insured.
